Promises and Commitments Six jobs in six years! No wonder Scott Michael promised himself he’d “never work for someone else, never again.”

In 1976, Scott Michael faced layoff number 6. That’s when Scott and his wife, MJ, took their first step toward keeping that promise never to work for anyone else again. They made a critical decision that would change their lives forever. As a result of their decision, the next six years would prove to be as awesome as the prior six years had been awful.

The decision? Scott and MJ made a solemn commitment to devote themselves full-time to building their Amway business. For the Michaels, the rest is history – a very successful history. By 1981, just four years later, the Michaels were celebrating a once-in-a-lifetime achievement. They reached Diamond!

Teamwork, Persistence, and Dedication Thanks to their teamwork, persistence, and dedication, in only four years the Michaels found the security and independence that had eluded them while they were working for others. No more layoffs. No more hoping that others might value their hard work. No more wondering whether their dedication would be appreciated and rewarded. Now they had a sure thing. Diamond!

“The Yager Group – that was the fuel that propelled us to Executive Diamond and beyond,” says Scott with a smile.

Indeed, neither Scott nor MJ treated the Diamond life as a resting place.; they treated it like a launching pad! In 1988, just seven years after reaching Diamond, the Michaels plugged into Dexter and Birdie and the Yager Group for success that would propel them even further. “Basically,” says MJ, “we learned how to work smart.” As the Michaels soon learned, “smart” pays off, and Scott and MJ Michael reached Executive Diamond in 1994.

Sow Freedom, Reap Freedom When Scott quotes the old adage, “you reap what you sow,” he’s talking from firsthand experience. Scott and MJ have reaped the freedom that they have helped others to find. “I love the freedom this business offers,” says Scott. Freedom – that’s what permits the Michaels to spend lots of time on the river, either relaxing on their boat or cooling off on their waverunners.

When they’re not on the river, look for the Michaels riding their ATVs through the dirt trails that line their 85-acre riverfront estate, the centerpiece of which is a stunning plantation-style home. These are fitting rewards for hard-working, dedicated, smart entrepreneurs. But their rewards do not end here.

The Best Reward of All Ask Scott and MJ to name the best reward, and both will respond that the best is the new partners they’ve nurtured and developed – their two children, Scott Jr. and Marci. Scott Jr., a CPA, handles all the Michael’s finances and Marci now oversees all of MJ’s Artistry and The Crowning Touch courses. Both children and their spouses are Independent Business Owners.

Just think: It all started with layoff number 6 and the promise the Michaels made to themselves. From that resolve – one developed in response to adversity – the Michaels became a genuine family enterprise success story.
